Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 28/07/2010 (5548 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
— ABOUT JOVON: Picking up the CFL’s special teams player of the week award was Winnipeg’s Jovon Johnson. The kick returner earned the honour with an 83-yard punt-return touchdown late in the fourth quarter that helped the Bombers crush the visiting Edmonton Eskimos 47-21 Saturday. "I have to give credit to the other 11 guys — they made it possible for me. Some great blocks that sprung me free… after that I just made people miss. That’s just the way it goes," Johnson said, noting there’s no better feeling than coming through the pack of players on a return and seeing only the punter between himself and the end zone. ‘When I’m one-on-one in the open field with the punter, I like my chances."
It’s the fourth time Johnson has won the special teams player award (he won it three times in 2009).
— ABOUT BUCK: The knee brace was new but the timetable for quarterback Buck Pierce remains the same: day-to-day. The veteran QB did not participate in the full workout, spending most of his Tuesday morning and early afternoon as a spectator. As each day passes, Pierce is becoming noticeably more frustrated with the healing process.
"I’m able to do some more things, I’m able to run around a little bit," Pierce told reporters after practice at Canad Inns Stadium. "I’m feeling pretty good. I’m kind of chomping at the bit — like I always am. I still have to stay smart right now and listen to what (the trainers) are telling me. It’s too early to tell right now."
— ABOUT ODELL: Fans watching practice noticed the absence of No. 40 Tuesday. DE Odell Willis isn’t hurt, he was just given a few days off to attend to some personal matters back home. Coach Paul LaPolice expects Willis to be back later this week. Willis, who was the Bombers’ best defensive player early on in the win over Edmonton, has two sacks this season.
— ABOUT JABARI: Looks like former Bomber receiver Jabari Arthur could be back to meet his old team. According to the Calgary Herald, Arthur was back on the field Tuesday, working with the first-team offence in the slot. "He looks pretty good out there," said Calgary coach John Hufnagel. "He’s running hard and he has a pretty good grasp of the offence and special-teams duties, so he’ll be a decision I’ll have to make at the end of the week." Arthur came to Winnipeg in a trade last September, but never saw action in Blue and Gold. It would be interesting timing for Arthur’s return to action: No doubt he’s shared a few things about the Winnipeg offence with the Calgary defensive coaches.

Walking Wounded
P Mike Renaud (knee), S Shawn Gallant (knee), LB Marcellus Bowman (hand), and DT Moton Hopkins (undisclosed) all sat out Tuesday with various bumps and bruises.
Getting Attention
Head coach Paul LaPolice had his first real on-field melt down at practice, tearing into the offence for a lack of sharpness. Two interceptions early on in one of the drills led to the full-blown eruption.
Romby Who?
Calgary receiver Romby Bryant was named the offensive player of the week Tuesday. The former Bomber had two TDs and 116 yards in a 40-20 win over Saskatchewan. Montreal DE John Bowman (defensive) and Stamps RB Jon Cornish (Canadian) also picked up weekly honours.
