WATSON, THEY NEED YOU: Rookie receiver Cory Watson continues to push for regular work in the Bombers’ starting lineup and spent a chunk of time near the end of practice Thursday playing pitch and catch with Jyles.

“He’s much faster now (after recovering from injury) and catching the ball better,” coach Paul LaPolice said. “We’ve had him in a rotation with Aaron Hargreaves and he’s getting better with each week.”

TOP ROOKIE? The CFL released its list of eligible rookies on Thursday and the Bomber list included 17 names, of which the best candidates are Alex Suber, Andre Douglas, Deon Beasley, Justin Palardy, Marcellus Bowman and Terence Jeffers-Harris, who likely would have been a slam dunk if he had stayed healthy.

“You have to win football games; that’s the mark of the great quarterbacks. But also just a progression in understanding how to protect the football, how to see coverage and process information before the snap and get the ball out of your hands. And then it’s just an overall ability to make plays.”

TRENDING CANADIAN: CFL practice rosters recently expanded, with the Bombers adding DE Fernand Kashama and receiver Josh Bishop, among others, to the lineup. LaPolice said GM Joe Mack has a line on a couple of imports they’d like to bring in, but the addition of Canadians simply helps them attempt to restock their homegrown help.

“It’s no secret here that we haven’t had a lot of draft picks,” LaPolice said. “You win in this league with Canadian talent and you’re always trying to find ways to improve it. There were a couple Canadians out there we felt were pretty good players and it gives us a chance to evaluate them.”

The Bombers are contemplating activating new Canadian DE Fernand Kashama for Sunday’s game in Montreal. Both Kashama and Remond Willis got long looks in one-on-one drills after practice.
