GAME BALLS:
ñº OFFENCE
Let’s give it to K Justin Palardy. The second-year Bomber went 3-for-4
in the field goal department. His lone miss — on a 48-yard attempt — resulted in a Toronto turnover, which resulted in a Bomber major.
ñº DEFENCE
Winnipeg LB Joe Lobendahn came to camp with something to prove and it
looks like the veteran is right on course. He recovered a fumble and had six tackles Thursday, showing a little more quickness in the middle of the defence.
ñº SPECIAL TEAMS
Roster hopeful Johnny Sears put in a strong bid with four excellent open-field tackles on returns. Honourable mention goes to Brandon Stewart, who forced a fumble on a missed field-goal attempt in the fourth quarter.
FAN-O-METER:
The final number is in: 21,155. That’s how many season tickets the football club sold for the coming season. That’s a franchise high and a testament to the football community in this province. Crazy. This team won FOUR games last year. Good work, Manitoba. The announced attendance Thursday: 29,117.
CRITICAL NUMBERS:33
The seconds left in the game when Argos third-string RB Chad Kackert turned in the longest play of the day. He scampered 73 yards through the Bomber backups for the winning score.
44
The longest play from scrimmage for the Bombers. It came courtesy of
WR Josh Bishop, who caught a short-gainer from QB Joey Elliott on the
sideline, absorbed two Argo tacklers, and lumbered towards the north
end zone.
