Security staff in Vancouver drew the ire of Saskatchewan Roughriders fans last week, forcing an estimated dozen fans to surrender the hollowed-out watermelon hats they were wearing. An Empire Field official told the Regina Leader-Post that the melons caused safety and cleanup issues at previous games when they were thrown on the field.

Arland Bruce No. 1: Just ask him

Newly minted Lions receiver Arland Bruce, aka Runako Reth, was asked by the Vancouver Sun this week how he fits into a B.C. offence that includes certain hall-of-famer, Geroy Simon. “I think we are both No. 1,” he said. “(Simon) understands. He told me when I got here we’re both No. 1s… It’s not really about a guy being No. 1. It’s about being in the right place at the right time.”
