ACTION JACKSON

The Toronto Argonauts say there’s nothing new in their offensive plan for Saturday with quarterback Jarious Jackson running the show instead of Ricky Ray.

But it’s going to look different to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as Jackson will get his first start in an Argos uniform while making his first start in two years. Ray is out with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

Jackson, a mobile pivot with a strong arm, and the Argonauts will be looking to end a two-game losing skid.

“You account for changes in quarterback in training camp and if there’s anything that you want to tweak if the situation occurs, it’s not brand new to the guys. So this isn’t the first time they’ve heard these plays and they’re going to be fine with them,” said Argonauts head coach Scott Milanovich.

Jackson ran the offence last week for most of the game vs. Montreal as he took over in the first quarter after Ray’s injury. He has a 3-1 record in starts against Winnipeg.

“I have trust and faith that Jarious is going to get me the ball on time as Ricky did and vice versa. He’s going to deliver,” said receiver Chad Owens. ” (Jackson) is a great quarterback. He’s a very driven leader and he’s proven in this league. I’m excited for him, excited to be out there with him.”

Bombers head coach Tim Burke said he expects a different game from Jackson than they would have seen from Ray.

“Jarious will have a different way, he likes to throw deep so he’ll take more shots deep than Ricky Ray would,” Burke said. “I think you’ll see him do that a bit more. He might run around a little bit more than Ricky would.”

PINBALL PIPES UP

MIKE (Pinball) Clemons was a dangerous weapon for the Toronto Argonauts as a player and he may be one from the vice-chair position.

The Argos invited Clemons, the CFL Hall of Famer who played 12 years with Toronto, to speak to the players at Thursday’s practice before they left for Winnipeg.

“We had Pinball in to get them fired up. I enjoy listening to him talk, I’ve heard a lot of speakers and he’s at the top of my list,” said Milanovich.

“He can get you going and he’s always relative to the players. Players at the end of practice generally just want to get off the field and get back to the locker-room. I was watching them, for 25 minutes their eyes were locked on Pinball.”

Clemons told media that he wished the talk had taken place out of the public eye.

“I’m not the magic here, they’re the magic,” Clemons told the Toronto Star about the Argos players.
