Receiver and special-teams player Julian Feoli-Gudino may turn out to be a good find for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The free agent from Montreal had played for the Toronto Argonauts, with new Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea, for two seasons. He caught a touchdown pass on Monday.
“I think it’s a fantastic opportunity and I don’t think I would have asked him to come here if it wasn’t going to be a good opportunity for him,” O’Shea said.
“There is that third (wide receiver) spot behind Rory (Kohlert) and Cory Watson, and as it’s proved out, Julian’s gotten a few more reps in camp than he would have thought and he’s made good on that.
“I’ve got first-hand knowledge of Julian from my time with him in Toronto, with my time on special teams, how he picked that up. We asked him to do stuff he’d never done before.”
Feoli-Gudino said Wednesday he’s eager to do whatever it takes to be in the Bombers lineup.
“There’s practice and there’s games,” he said. “At one point you have to make the plays in the game and I felt like I had a good opportunity on Monday and I took the best out of it so far.
“If they need me to play, I’ll be there and I’ll know my role.”
After successful college football days at Laval, he said he immersed himself in contributing on special teams in Toronto.
“I discovered a new facet of football and I loved it,” he said. “Different but fun.”
