Star college passer joins pivot parade

While the four pivots on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers roster waited to learn their fate Thursday, the team added a new quarterback to the fold.

On Wednesday, former University of Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Kolton Browning tweeted that he had signed with the Bombers. He is expected to arrive in Winnipeg today.

Browning, who is originally from Texas, is a left-handed thrower who went undrafted after his final season with the Warhawks. He played four years as a starter at ULM, including a breakout 2012 campaign where he completed 63.8 per cent of his passes for 29 touchdowns and 3,049 yards, while also averaging just more than 40 rushing yards a game. That earned him the title of Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, though the team finished 8-5.

In 2013, the 6-1 pivot connected on 56.8 per cent of his throws for ULM, racking up 2,179 yards and 21 majors against eight interceptions.

The Dallas Cowboys brought him in on a tryout contract this spring, but despite his athleticism he didn’t stick and was subsequently released.
