ñº OFFENCE

Lions QB Kevin Glenn didn’t do anything particularly well, but he didn’t hurt his team either. And on a night when the Bombers had just 112 yards offence in the first half and lost their starting quarterback to injury, Glenn’s careful stewardship of the Lions offence was good enough to get his team a critical win over a West Division rival.

ñº DEFENCE

The injury-riddled Bombers defence — which got even more injury riddled when middle linebacker E.J. Kuale left the game with a reported eye injury — put in a respectable showing in trying circumstances. The boast by B.C. running back Andrew Harris that his team might rush for 250 yards wasn’t even close — the Lions had 163 yards on the ground with under a minute to play — and the Bombers got good nights out of LB Desia Dunn, LB Teague Sherman and DL Jake Thomas, who all recorded sacks and multiple tackles.

ñº SPECIAL TEAMS

Lions place-kicker Paul McCallum extended his consecutive field-goal streak to 23 before he finally missed in the third quarter to bring a truly remarkable run to an end. Honourable mention to Bombers kicker Lirim Hajrullahu, who had three field goals and becomes just the 14th Bombers player in history to record 100-plus points in a single season.

CRITICAL

NUMBERS

WEST WOES:

With the Bombers season now two-thirds over, here’s a look at a few numbers:

The Bombers have a record of 6-6 and are 3-3 at home and 3-3 on the road. Their record against the East this season is 5-1, while their record against the West is 1-5.

FALLING SHORT:

The Bombers have been getting killed in the second quarter and last night was no different. They were outscored 12-0 in the second quarter against B.C. and have now surrendered 79 points in the second quarters of their last five games.

SERIES SPLIT:

With Saturday’s result, Winnipeg and B.C. have so far split the season series 1-1. The rubber match will be played Oct. 25 at Investors Group Field.
