The Winnipeg Blue Bombers earn their first win at home this season, defeating the Montreal Alouettes 25-23 at Investors Group Field Friday night.

With the win, the Bombers improve to 2-1 on the year. As for the Als, they fall to 1-2 on the season with the loss.

The Bombers hit the score sheet first as kicker Lirim Hajrullahu made good on a 52-yard field goal. He later doubled the lead for the home side with a 21-yard kick.

Montreal would cut the Bombers lead in half early in the second quarter with a 22-yard field goal of their own; this one from Boris Bede to make it 6-3.

The Bombers defence would respond with a 40-yard interception touchdown by Johnny Adams, who picked off Montreal quarterback Rakeem Cato to give the Bombers a 12-3 lead after the 1-point convert from Hajrullahu missed wide.

Not to be outdone, the Alouettes put together an 80-yard touchdown drive, capped off by a 4-yard run from Tyrell Sutton to cut the Bombers lead to 12-10.

With just 17 seconds to go before in the half, a Lin-J Shell blocked punt ended up in the arms of Teague Sherman in the end zone, giving the Bombers a 19-10 lead headed in to half.

The Alouettes opened the scoring in the second half with a 22-yard field goal from Bede, cutting the Bombers lead to just six points, 19-13. Winnipeg would match that by the end of the third quarter with a 25-yard kick from Hajrullahu to make it 22-13.

But Montreal refused to go away as Sutton would score his second touchdown of the game with an 8-yard run to make it 22-20. The Bombers then answered back with Hajrullah’s fourth field goal of the game from 32 yards out to regain the Bombers five-point lead.

A last ditch effort that included another field goal from Bede went unrewarded as the Bombers held on to win 25-23.
