The Winnipeg Blue Bombers completed a significant piece of business when it comes to building their offensive line for the upcoming season, inking Stanley Bryant to a one-year extension on Tuesday.
Bryant was set to become a free agent on Feb. 13, but will instead be with the Blue and Gold for a ninth straight year, his 14th in the CFL.
The North Carolina product was rumoured to be considering retirement but, despite turning 38 in May, will be back to protect quarterback Zach Collaros’ blind side, lining up in his usual spot at left tackle.
He will speak with members of the press today.
Bryant is among of the most decorated O-linemen in CFL history, having won the most outstanding lineman award a league-high four times, and is a seven-time CFL all-star. He’s also proven to be incredibly durable, missing just one game in eight seasons with the Bombers, due to being a healthy scratch.
The Bombers have now signed two of five starting O-linemen from last season, with Patrick Neufeld also inking a one-year extension. Still in need of a contract for 2024 are right tackle Jermarcus Hardrick, centre Chris Kolankowski and left guard Geoff Gray.
