- Named the Red Wings rookie of the year in 2008 by the Detroit Broadcasters Association.
- Despite not playing the minimum 40 games (he appeared 32) and not in the playoffs, Meech had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, due to a petition to the NHL by the Wings.
- Paired with Dion Phaneuf during his days manning the blue-line with the Red Deer Rebels; won a Memorial Cup with the Rebels in 2000-01.
- Member of Canadian world junior squad in 2004 that lost 4-3 to the U.S. in the final in Finland.
- Favourite player growing up was Wings defenceman Nik Lidstrom
- As a kid, once scored eight touchdowns in a football game.
