THE first eight games of the NHL season have brought the Winnipeg Jets little in the way of consistency or results.
The 2-5-1 Jets go off on a seven-game road trip, starting tonight in Philadelphia.
“Hopefully, with the road comes a simpler game and some success,” captain Andrew Ladd said Wednesday.
Right-winger Chris Thorburn said there’s progress.
“I like the way our game is coming along; we’re playing more as a team and executing our game plan.”
Jets coach Claude Noel refused Wednesday to put a make-or-break label on the next two weeks.
“We have to play well and we have to get some results, and this is a good place for us to start. We understand the urgency of things and we’ve got to get going.”
GOOD FIT: He was a late addition on Sept. 9, but the Jets are more than pleased with the contribution by veteran forward Kyle Wellwood through eight games. The 28-year-old has three goals and two assists for the club and his versatility has been a real asset.
“That’s something I’ve kind of learned over the years — to try and play a well-rounded game all the time and not focus on who I’m out there with,” Wellwood said.
