The big picture

The Jets have played 54 games and have 28 remaining, but with more efforts like Sunday’s they’ll be free come mid-April. Listless and lifeless, they missed closing the gap on Washington, which lost, and idle Florida in the Southeast Division.

It’s about the power play… it stinks. Winnipeg was 0-for-3 Sunday. On this six-game road trip that began before the all-star break they’re 0-for-13. To make matters worse, they gave up a short-handed goal against the Habs. Putrid with a capital P-U.

Game breaker

The Canadiens lead 1-0 in the second when the Jets go on the power play. But it’s Montreal that scores on a 3-on-1 rush where Tomas Plekanec feeds Alexei Emelin.
