Big picture

The big picture is starting to look bleak, Jets fans. There are still seven games left in the regular season, but Winnipeg is now six points back of Buffalo for the final playoff spot. That means the Jets are going to go on a heckuva run here in the final seven — three of which are at home — just to remain a player in the playoff hunt until the bitter end.

Little picture

The Jets’ fourth line of Tim Stapleton, Spencer Machacek and Ben Maxwell scored the only goal and was solid. The No. 1 unit of Ladd-Little-Wheeler had some chances, but the second line of Kane-Burmistrov-Wellwood was invisible.

Game-breaker

Gabriel Bourque’s goal midway through the second period gave the Preds a 2-zip lead. And a two-goal lead by one of the NHL’s strongest defensive clubs presents a nightmare for any team trying to mount a comeback.
