SENATORS 6 JETS 4

THE BIG PICTURE

It’s not officially, official, but it’s getting as close as damn is to swearing. The Jets remain in 10th in the Eastern Conference with 78 points, but are 10 back of the Senators and remain six back of both Washington and Buffalo. That’s a whole lot of ground to make up in just six games.

LITTLE PICTURE

The Jets out-shot the Sens 48-35 and had chances galore to score. And they did with four goals. But the defence was sloppy and the Sens’, with their superior finish, made the Jets pay dearly.

GAME BREAKER

The MTS Centre is rocking after Evander Kane’s 29th of the season ties the game with 2:57 remaining but, in a movie Jet fans have seen before, the Sens answer just 24 seconds later when Daniel Alfredsson capitalizes when Winnipeg is caught running around in its own end.

FREE PRESS 3 STARS

1. Daniel Alfredsson, F, Ott. — The Sens captain’s finish was on full display as he scored twice, including the winner. Now has 26 this year.

2. Jason Spezza, F, Ott. — Played with some jam and some fire. Had two assists, led the Sens with five shots and played angry after taking back-to-back minors in the second.

3. Antti Miettinen, F, Wpg, — Potted two more to up his season total to four — all in the last two home games. Looking more like the player the Jets wanted when they grabbed off the waiver wire last fall.
