MONTREAL — It may have been a turning point but it wasn’t. And Blake Wheeler’s disallowed goal early in the third period Thursday only further magnifies the frustration in Jetsville.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the third period, the Jets looked to have pulled to within one on the power play when Toby Enstrom’s blast deflected off Blake Wheeler past Peter Budaj. But the referees ruled Wheeler had interfered with the netminder and the goal was disallowed.

“What can you say? You saw the replay,” said Wheeler. “I never even touched the goalie, I got out of his way. That’s just the way seem to go. You try and get into those dirty areas and get rewarded and they wave it off.

“I was driving to the net, (Bryan Little) had the puck and I was trying to give him an option if he had me back door. He elected to go back to Toby so I stopped and I think (Josh) Gorges’ momentum went into me, I backed away and from there the puck went off me and into the net. I don’t feel like I ever made contact with the goaltender.

“It is what it is. It doesn’t matter anymore.”

KANE IN TROUBLE? Evander Kane’s third-period scrap with Alexei Emelin may put him under the microscope with the NHL. As Kane ripped off Emelin’s helmet and started throwing punches, it looked like the first was thrown with the helmet still in hand — even though it didn’t make contact.

“That happens all the time,” said Kane. “When you fight there’s a lot going on. You’re trying to get the other guy’s helmet off. Sometimes it gets caught in your hand when you’re throwing a punch. That’s what happens. I’m not going to sit here and feel sorry about that.”

GO EAST, YOUNG MAN: One of the brightest — and biggest — young stars in the Jets system has been signed to an amateur tryout contract with the St. John’s IceCaps.

Forward Adam Lowry, 20, is coming off an impressive campaign with the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League in which he led his team with 88 points on 45 goals and 43 assists, adding five more points in five playoff games.

Selected by the Jets in the third round, 67th overall, of the 2011 NHL entry draft, the 6-5, 201-pound product of Calgary — his father Dave was a longtime NHLer who played in over 1,000 games with Vancouver, St. Louis, Florida, San Jose and Calgary and is now the head coach of the WHL’s Victoria Royals.

Adam will join the IceCaps, who have nine games left in the regular season.
