WINNIPEG Jets coach Claude Noel wasn’t “touching that,” on Thursday night when asked about Evander Kane’s goal-scoring slump.
The Jets’ left-winger, now 10 games in a row without a goal, took pretty much the same angle of attack on Friday.
Kane was asked for a comment on this topic: Some are wondering if you’re pressing at this stage.
“I guess they can continue to wonder,” said Kane, stuck on six goals since he scored Oct. 26 in Dallas.
The left-winger, whose ice time has exceeded 21 minutes in five of the last six games, had more in the way of an opinion about the Jets’ team game after Friday’s practice at the MTS Centre.
“We’re just not playing well,” he said. “It’s just that simple. We won three in a row, lose three in a row. That does nothing for you. I’ve said at the beginning of the season (that) playoff teams, they win three, four, five, six in a row, maybe lose one or two, win three, four five in a row, then maybe lose one or two.
“That’s what good teams do. Winning three in a row’s great, but to turn around and lose three in a row, you’re right back where you started and games are just running out. That doesn’t do anything for us. We need to find ways, when we do go on so-called winning streaks and win a couple in a row, we need to continue that.”
Asked whether the Jets need to raise the bar for their play, Kane said the team is tired of talking about it.
“We can talk about it all day long and have discussions about it and you guys can talk about it all day long but it’s not going to get us anywhere and it’s not going to do anything for us,” he replied. “We just need to go out there and do it.”
Kane did say his foot was fine after a blocking a shot early in the Thursday’s loss to Chicago.
He was straightforward about the defeat.

“I think it’s pretty self-explanatory,” he said. “We didn’t win the hockey game and they’ve beaten us three straight games now.
“Yeah, I think after every performance you obviously have to evaluate how you played. For us to win we need everybody going and everybody playing well. So obviously that didn’t happen last night and we didn’t win the hockey game.”
