ABOUT THE SENS

Entering Friday night’s play, the Senators were four points off the playoff line held by Detroit at 69 in the Eastern Conference. Their 65 points were also behind Columbus, Washington and New Jersey, making Ottawa’s assignment down the stretch extra difficult.

The Sens own the decision in the season’s previous game with the Jets, a 4-3 score on Jan. 2 in Ottawa. It helped the Sens get started in posting their best month of the season so far, at 7-2-3.

In his first appearance since being acquired earlier on trade deadline day, forward Ales Hemsky had no points and two shots on goal in 15:55 of ice time as the Sens lost 4-1 in Calgary.

Left-winger Clarke MacArthur, who has a healthy 19 goals and 44 points for the Sens so far this season, has a hand injury and is questionable for today’s game.

On special teams, the Sens are truly a strange lot. Their power play on the road is No. 1 (25.7 per cent) , but 30th at home, of course placing them 16th in the NHL. Ottawa’s penalty-killing isn’t great overall, 14th at home and 28th on the road for an overall ranking of 24th at 80.1 per cent.
