 ABOUT THE SHARKS

The Sharks won their season-opener, 4-0 in Los Angeles, bucking quite a trend. In the previous 22 games between the teams, including playoffs, the home team had gone 20-1-1.

Centre Tommy Wingels led San Jose out of the gate fast, with two goals. Antti Niemi posted the shutout on the road, with 34 saves, spoiling the Cup-banner-raising night for the Kings, who defeated them in last spring’s playoff with a comeback from 3-0 down in the series.

The Jets (also 1-0) and Sharks had very close games last season. Winnipeg won twice, a 5-4 shootout win at home and a 4-3 decision late in the season in San Jose. The Sharks won the other game, 1-0 at home in January.
