ABOUT THE DEVILS
- The Jets were the opponent for the Bruins home opener and do the same tonight for the Devils at the Prudential Center. The Devils are 19-8-5 in season-openers all-time and 17-9-6 in home-openers.
- New Jersey was 32-36-14 last season, good for just 78 points and 13th place in the Eastern Conference. They have not qualified for the playoffs in the last three seasons.
- Former Jet Lee Stempniak is working on the right side of the Devils top line, along with Winnipeg product Travis Zajac and Mike Cammalleri.
- This is the debut for new Devils head coach John Hynes, who spent the last six years with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL, including five as head coach. During his time as boss the Penguins posted five consecutive 40-win campaigns.
- The Devils are 31-16-8 all time, including 16-8-4 at home, vs. the Jets/Thrashers franchise.
- The Jets likely won’t have to face Patrik Elias tonight, and he’s been a killer against Winnipeg with six goals in 11 games since 2011-12.
