үӯ ABOUT THE SHARKS
The Sharks are coming off a 4-2 win over Philadelphia Dec. 30, a game in which they scored three unanswered goals in the third period and ended a four-game winless streak at the SAP Center. The Sharks are just 5-10-0 in San Jose, giving them the fewest home wins in the NHL.
Joe Pavelski scored twice and picked up his seventh game-winning goal in the process — best in the NHL. Joe Thornton picked up a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to seven games (three goals, seven assists).
Sharks centre Logan Couture, who had 27 goals and 67 points last year, picked up a pair of helpers in the win over the Flyers. It was his first game since Dec. 9 when he suffered a charleyhorse that led to an arterial bleed.
The Sharks Brent Burns didn’t face any supplementary discipline from the NHL’s department of player safety after a hit on Flyers centre Chris Vandevelde in Wednesday’s win. It was a play Flyers coach Dave Hakstol believed should have been penalized for direct contact to the head. A day after Hakstol spoke out, Sharks coach Peter DeBoer countered with: “Dave should maybe apply for a player safety job,” he said, laughing. A fact of which the Jets should be aware: the Sharks have the NHL’s fifth-best power play (21.8 per cent).
