About the CANUCKS

Vancouver (18-21-6 prior to Saturday night’s game in Edmonton) is mired near the bottom of the Western Conference standings as the team battles injuries and inconsistent play. They’ll playing on back-to-back nights when they visit Winnipeg.

The Canucks are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league, while also surrendering more goals per game than all but five other clubs. That’s not a winning combination.

C Bo Horvat (10G, 10A in 28 games) was having a fantastic season prior to breaking his foot in early December, but is closing in on a return to the lineup.

Vancouver’s biggest bright spot this year has been rookie RW Brock Boeser (22G, 18A) who leads the team in goals and points and is headed to the all-star game. Veteran LW Thomas Vanek (13G, 19A) has been a good fit on a line with him.

C Henrik Sedin (2G, 30A) and LW Daniel Sedin (10G, 19A) have certainly slowed with age but can still be dangerous on any given night.

There’s not a lot of offence from the blue line, with D Michael Del Zotto (2G, 12A) and D Alex Edler (2G, 12A) being the biggest threats.

G Jacob Markstrom (12-14-5, 2.72 GA, .909 SV%) has got the majority of work this year as backup G Anders Nilsson (6-7-1, 3.57 GAA, .901%) has struggled when called upon.

Vancouver does have one of the NHL’s best power plays at 21.5%, while their penalty killing is among the worst at just 77.1%.

This is the third and final meeting with the Jets, who took the first two games by scores of 4-2 and 5-1.
