Two goals in the opening period were enough for Manitoba on Saturday afternoon, as the Bisons earned a weekend sweep of the Calgary Dinos with a 4-1 win at Wayne Fleming Arena.
Both goals in the first 20 minutes came from the line of Sheridan Oswald, Lauryn Keen and Natasha Kostenko.
“They were one of the top lines in the conference last year and they came to play today,” Bisons head coach Sean Fisher said about the Keen line post-game. “Kostenko back in the lineup today kind of brought a little more energy and pace. She brings a different element, she’s a tough player for teams to handle.”
Manitoba carried their momentum from Friday night’s win into the opening 20 minutes of Game 2, outshooting Calgary 14-4 while controlling play in the neutral zone.
Bisons beat Wesman
in soccer clash
With a big venue came a competitive match, as the Manitoba Bisons and Winnipeg Wesmen battled for 67 scoreless minutes at Investors Group Field. The Bisons, though, were the first to score — and held that 1-0 lead for a win Saturday.
The win improves the Bisons record to 4-4-2, as they sit in fourth in the Canada West Prairie division. Winnipeg falls to 0-6-4 with the loss, in sixth place.
Manitoba’s lone goal came off the foot of Hailey Lavarias in the 67th minute, her second goal of the season.
