ULRICEHAMN, Sweden – Canada’s Alex Harvey skied to a ninth-place finish Saturday in a 15-kilometre individual start World Cup cross-country race.

Harvey, of St-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que., posted a time of 35 minutes 26.8 seconds, 31 seconds behind the gold medallist Maurice Manificat of France (34:55.4).

Norway’s Simen Hegstad Krueger was second at 34:56.5, while Didrik Toenseth crossed the line in third at 35:04.1.

“That was my best distance race of the season,” said the three-time Olympian. “The feelings were really good today and feel like I have the arrow pointing in the right direction again.”

After winning the 30th medal of his career in the second World Cup stop of the season in November, the last few weeks had been a grind for Harvey. The 30-year-old pulled out of the prestigious Tour de Ski heading into the final weekend and returned to Quebec for a mental break.

“I needed to stop getting upset with myself, and couldn’t find a good vibe,” said Harvey. “I couldn’t do that on the road racing so had a good mental break at home and know I need to let things just happen on its own.”

Dahria Beatty of Whitehorse was the lone Canadian in the women’s 10-kilometre individual start race. She placed 56th at 29:42.9.

Germany’s Nadine Herrmann won the gold with a time of 28:48.3.
