Rachel Homan has posted her thanks to the curling community for an outpouring of support after earlier tweeting she was in the “deepest of black holes” following her elimination from the Beijing Olympics.
In a Twitter thread on Thursday, the two-time Canadian Olympic curler said she was “overwhelmed with feelings that I had let everyone down and it was hard to navigate.”
“I have so much to be grateful for, but my mind was really struggling … I was beyond low, but I wanted to share and be honest,” Homan said. “The number of people who reached out completely blew me away.”

After Homan and mixed doubles partner John Morris dropped an 8-7, extra end decision to Italy last week, Homan said she was avoiding social media, saying in a tweet on Tuesday that she was “personally struggling with the loss.”
On Thursday, she expressed her gratitude for being able to share how she was feeling with the curling community and fellow supporters, especially during a time of isolation during COVID-19. Homan said she used this as a reminder to herself of the importance of dialogue when facing challenging times.
“Canada, thank you for your support when I needed it most,” she said.
