Kayla MacMillan’s team stays unbeaten at Olympic curling pre-trials

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Kayla MacMillan’s team has won a third straight game at the Home Hardware Curling Pre-Trials.

The Victoria foursome got to a record of 3-0 with a 6-4 win over Nancy Martin’s team from Martensville, Sask.

The men’s and women’s winners of the pre-trials join the Montana’s Curling Trials fields next month in Halifax. 

The trials determines Canada’s teams for February’s Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Italy.

In other games, Myla Plett doubled Selena Sturmay 10-5, Krista Scharf edged Danielle Inglis 8-7, Sam Mooibroek got by Scott Howard 5-4 and Braden Calvert defeated Jordan McDonald 8-4.

In men’s play on Tuesday night, Howard of Navan, Ont., improved to 3-1 with a 6-3 win over Mark Kean of Woodstock, Ont., who slipped to 0-4. Quebec’s Jean-Michel Menard (3-1) scored four in the 10th end to beat McDonald (2-2) of Winnipeg, Man., 9-6.

Owen Purcell (2-2) of Halifax, N.S., scored two in the ninth and stole one in the 10th to beat Calvert (2-2) of Winnipeg 6-5. And Jayden King (2-2) of London, Ont., beat Mooibroek (2-2) of Whitby, Ont., 9-5.

In women’s play Tuesday night, Beth Peterson of Winnipeg improved to 1-2 with a 7-2 win over Ashley Thevenot, also 1-2, of Saskatoon, Sask.
