The City of Winnipeg issued an order to vacate the Manwin Hotel on Main Street amid multiple outstanding permit requirements and compliance orders.
Spokesperson Kalen Qually confirmed the city issued the vacate order earlier this month.
The owner has filed an appeal of the order, which will be heard Feb. 10, Qually said.
Qually could not confirm the number of tenants ordered to leave. Prior to issuing the vacate order, the city had been in contact with the Residential Tenancies Branch and the province’s Employment & Income Assistance to offer assistance to tenants, he stated.
The hotel has been the subject of violence and rampant drug use in recent years and multiple agencies and advocates have called for its closure. It was the site of a fire on Dec. 29.
