The construction of a long-awaited permanent fire-paramedic station in Waverley West will begin this spring and be completed about 14 months later.

Waverley West Coun. Janice Lukes shared the general timeline for the project, which will aim to reduce lengthy emergency wait times in the rapidly growing area.

A city report last year described the timeline to build the $12.1-million station as “presently unknown.” Before that, it was expected to open in 2025.

The city is now seeking a company to design and build the 10,700-square-foot facility, a contract it expects to award in December.

A temporary station is expected to begin operating in Waverley West before the end of this year to help provide quicker emergency service before the permanent one arrives.
