Olympic medallist Susan Auch is running as an independent in the Transcona provincial byelection after previously saying the Progressive Conservatives “chose to block her” from seeking their nomination.
Auch is one of four candidates set to appear on the ballot, Elections Manitoba said Monday, after nominations closed. Former Transcona city councillor Shawn Nason is the PC candidate. Transcona Collegiate vice-principal Shannon Corbett is running for the NDP, and Brad Boudreau is the Liberal candidate.
“The party chose to block me from running because certain insiders saw me as a threat,” Auch said of the PCs on social media on Feb. 22. “They denied Transcona a real choice and went with the establishment pick instead.”
Advance voting starts Saturday. The byelection is March 18.
The seat became vacant when NDP cabinet minister Nello Altomare died in January.
