Two homes were damaged in a Redwood Avenue fire that killed a pet early Monday.
Firefighters were sent to a two-storey house on the 400 block at 3:31 a.m. They fought the fire from outside and declared it under control at 4:40 a.m.
Some residents got out before crews arrived. Firefighters evacuated some neighbouring homes as a precaution.
A cat was found dead during a search of the homes.
The home where the fire started, and a neighbouring home, sustained damage.
The fire was the second in the 400 block of Redwood in two days. Crews extinguished a fire at a boarded-up, two-storey home late Sunday morning. The fire was the fourth at that structure since October 2023.
Crews extinguished fires in two other vacant houses Monday morning. Firefighters were sent to a two-and-a-half storey house on the 200 block of Spence Street at 7:39 a.m. and declared the fire under control at 8:30 a.m.
Firefighters were sent to a vacant house on the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue at 8:43 a.m. and declared the fire under control at 8:52 a.m.
