BANFF, Alta. – A Mountie serving in Alberta’s Rocky Mountain resort town of Banff has been charged with breaking and entering at a hotel almost two years ago.

The officer is accused of breaking into a hotel room in the early morning hours in October 2022.

The room was reportedly occupied by two women with whom the accused had been socializing hours earlier.

The charges were laid based on the recommendation of the provincial police watchdog agency, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.

Const. Garret Claxton was formally charged last week and released on an appearance notice.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on Sept. 25.
