The province’s police watchdog says a 34-year-old man shot by police in Markham, Ont., earlier this week has died in hospital.
The Special Investigations Unit has been looking into the shooting that took place early Wednesday morning in a condominium complex on Buchanan Drive.
York Region police have said that officers responding to a welfare check at the address found a male who was “actively attacking” a female.
The SIU said officers entered a condo unit and one of them shot the man shortly after.
A woman was also taken to hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
The SIU says it has recovered a police-issued firearm and a knife from the scene and is urging anyone with information about the case to contact investigators.
