Toronto police have arrested a suspect in an alleged sexual assault of a 62-year-old woman last month in a west-end park.

The woman was approached from behind while she was walking in High Park around 10:40 p.m. on June 4 and was dragged into a wooded area where she was sexually assaulted, police said.

They said the woman was able to get away from the suspect and had a passerby call police, and the man fled the area soon after.

A 35-year-old Toronto man was arrested outside the city on Wednesday, police said. He faces seven charges, including sexual assault and failure to comply with probation.

Investigators said there may be more victims, including beyond Toronto, and are asking anyone who has information to come forward.

“High Park is one of the city’s most cherished public spaces and this assault understandably caused fear and concern to the community,” Toronto police Supt. Andrew Ecklund told reporters on Thursday.

“In particular to High Park, this crime is very rare,” said Ecklund, adding that police haven’t received any reports about other assaults in the park.

Police issued a public safety alert following the assault last month and said they are increasing police presence at the park.
