ANAHIM LAKE – RCMP in central British Columbia say their underwater recovery team has pulled the bodies of two snowmobilers from Charlotte Lake after they fell through the ice last week.
Police in Anahim Lake, north of Charlotte Lake, say they received a report on Feb. 20 that the couple had not been seen since three days before that.
Neighbours started a search on Charlotte Lake while police were on their way and found them beneath the ice.
Police say they believe the snowmobilers fell through the ice on Feb. 17, but due to the delay of them being reported missing, the lake surface had time to refreeze and conceal the break in the ice.
The Mounties say a team with specialized ice-diving training attended the scene and recovered both people.
They say a 65-year-old man and 58-year-old woman, both from 100 Mile House, have been identified as the victims and the coroner’s service has taken over the investigation into their deaths.
