PORT HARDY – A Prince Rupert, B.C., man has been arrested and charged with murder in the killing of an 84-year-old man who was found gravely injured on Vancouver Island almost two years ago.

Port Hardy RCMP say the 54-year-old suspect was arrested in Prince Rupert last Friday without incident.

Police in the Port Hardy in the far north of Vancouver Island had received a report of an injured man on a path on Oct. 6, 2024, and the victim was taken to hospital where he died.

The victim was identified as a man who had been living in Port Hardy.

Police say major crime investigators took over the case, and the years-long investigation led to the arrest of the suspect.

He is charged with second-degree murder and remains in police custody.
