MEADOW LAKE – Mounties in northern Saskatchewan say a man faces an attempted murder charge after an officer was hit by a vehicle that he was trying to stop with road spikes.

RCMP say the white SUV sped by a stop sign and onto a highway in Meadow Lake, Sask., northwest of Saskatoon, on Monday.

They say an officer tried multiple times to pull over the vehicle.

The officer was then struck deploying a spike belt and was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The SUV, which ran over the spikes, was later found abandoned, and police arrested a man and a woman.

The 26-year-old man also faces dangerous driving and assault charges, while the woman is charged with fleeing and resisting an officer.
