DARTMOUTH – Halifax police have charged a woman with the 2024 killing of a man whose body was found at a homeless encampment.

Police arrested a 22-year-old woman Tuesday morning and charged her with manslaughter in the death of the 56-year-old man.

On Dec. 22, 2024, officers responded to a report of a man who had been assaulted by a woman, but the man declined medical attention and further police investigation.

The man was found dead in a tent in Dartmouth four days later, and he was identified as Jeffrey Alexander Emmerson.

In June 2025, Nova Scotia’s medical examiner determined his death was a homicide.

The accused is scheduled to appear today in Dartmouth provincial court.
