— Those frustrated with WR Adarius Bowman can look elsewhere for a scapegoat.

Any Blue Bomber roster moves concerning Bowman are simply not going to be happening before the Labour Day Classic, the head coach says.

"I feel we need to be more consistent in the receiver corps," Paul LaPolice explained to reporters. "If you bring a new guy in, it’s going to take him a week or two to be up to speed. We’re hoping (WR Terence Jeffers-Harris) is back by then and that will help us there."

LaPolice has talked to the enigmatic receiver a few times about his drops — specifically the two, wide-open misses against Montreal two weeks ago — and says he sympathizes with his talented, but inconsistent, pass catcher.

"When they make a mistake, everyone in the stadium sees it," LaPolice said. "When a left tackle misses a twist, they (fans) don’t really say too much, they just say the offensive line."

LaPolice was quick to remove the sugar-coating from the Bowman topic, though. When asked if the player’s ability earns him a certain amount of leniency with the coaching staff, the head man drew a line in the sand.

"He has leeway, but you have to evaluate everything and if (a player) continues to make mistakes you have to make changes," LaPolice said.

Bowman has 31 catches for 470 yards and two touchdowns this season.

— STEP FOR TJ: Some encouraging news for the offence as Jeffers-Harris, heralded as a legitimate rookie of the year candidate after the first four games, was spotted without the clunky black walking boot wrapped around his right foot Tuesday.

The import receiver, who has 21 catches for 317 yards and three TDs, suffered a high-ankle sprain against Calgary at the end of July and has been sidelined ever since.

Jeffers-Harris did not participate in practice and no timetable has been set for his return. In fact, it might not be until after the Banjo Bowl before the club considers him an option in the passing game.

"He moved around, but he can’t plant, so (his return) is a ways away," said LaPolice.

— HEFNEY UPDATE: Defensive back Jonathan Hefney has passed another checkpoint on his quest to make it to an NFL roster. The former Bombers DB is a part of the Detroit Lions 75-man roster, having survived Tuesday’s cut down day.

Hefney, who looks to make the Lions as a special teams player, is not a lock to be on the opening day roster, however, as NFL clubs have one final roster purge this weekend.

Teams are required to get down to 53 players on Saturday.

Welcome Back, Part One

Starting safety Ian Logan returned to practice, after missing the last three games with a hamstring problem. Barring any hiccups this week, he’ll be good to go against Saskatchewan.

Welcome Back, Part Two

Another returnee for the Bombers defence: Starting LB Marcellus Bowman. The rookie, who’s missed the last four games with a hand injury, was also back on the field Tuesday.

On the Mend

K Louie Sakoda (calf) is going to be out a couple weeks; OL Andre Douglas (knee) and OL Luke Fritz (hamstring) are both day-to-day.
