WINNIPEG — With three perfect balls off Pine Ridge’s first tee this morning, Americans Liam Kendregan and Vince Covello and Montreal’s Yohann Benson began the 2011 edition of the Players Cup hosted by Jonathan Toews.
The $200,000 tournament, the ninth stop of the year for the Canadian Tour continues until Sunday.
In this week’s field of 156 players, 16 local players are entered, including 2010 Manitoba amateur champ Peter More and 2010 Manitoba junior champ Aaron Cockerill.
The Tour has brought an elite field to Winnipeg. Thirty-seven of the top 40 players on the money list are here.
The winner earns a cheque for $32,000 and an invitation to next week’s RBC Canadian Open in Vancouver.
