The mystery — if you want to call it that — is over.

Quarterback Buck Pierce declared himself fit and ready to lead the Winnipeg Blue Bombers again, when the club takes on the Toronto Argonauts at Rogers Centre Saturday afternoon. (3 p.m., TSN, CJOB).

The club was hesitant to name its starter for the game, wanting to make sure Pierce was healthy before making an official announcement.

“I feel good enough to play, and I’m going to play,” Pierce said after practice Thursday.

Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice confirmed the quarterback’s statement, saying Pierce has looked good over the last three days of practice — good enough to get the green light from the coaches and medical staff.

“There was no soreness from yesterday,” LaPolice said. “He was able to move fine today so he’ll start.”

Pierce had been dealing with what the club is calling a bruised quadriceps injury to his left leg, suffered in the second quarter in last week’s 21-20 loss to the Calgary Stampeders. He was removed from that game at the half, as coaches felt he wasn’t moving well enough to be effective.

Second-year QB Alex Brink will backup Pierce in Toronto. Third-string QB Justin Goltz will also make the trip.

The Bombers (2-1) depart for southern Ontario Friday morning.

Winnipeg took the first meeting with the Argos (1-2) by a 22-16 score at Canad Inns Stadium in Week 2.
