About the Jets
Head into the game three points out of a playoff spot and 10th in the Eastern Conference after the Capitals picked up a point in an OT loss to the Pens on Sunday. The Caps have 53 points, the Leafs 51 and Winnipeg 50… Winnipeg is 2-1-1 in its last four… This is the fourth of six meetings between the two clubs: the Jets have won all three previous… G Chris Mason has picked up the win in all three games vs. the Canes. He is 5-2-1 with a 1.39 GAA and one shutout in eight games against Carolina.
About the Hurricanes
Carolina is last in the conference with a 17-24-9 record and is 4-3-3 in its last 10… Here’s a big reason the Canes have fallen in the standings: Last year they were 12-8-4 vs. Southeast opponents, this season they are 3-8-2… Carolina is an impressive 7-2-1 in its last 10 home games… The Canes are second in the NHL with eight short-handed goals… Jeff Skinner has nine points (3G, 6A) in eight career games vs. the Thrashers/Jets; Eric Staal has 51 points (20G, 31A) in 51 games vs. the Atl/Wpg franchise.
