About the Jets
Expect to see Ondrej Pavelec in goal for the visiting Jets tonight, after Chris Mason played in Monday’s loss in Carolina… Big storyline for the Jets is their 0-7 record so far this season on the second night of back-to-back games… The last instance, last week in New Jersey, produced a poor outing in a 5-1 loss…The Jets remain without D Dustin Byfuglien, LW Evander Kane and C Tim Stapleton for this brief two-game trip. It’s possible all three could be back in action when the NHL schedule resumes next week, but the return date of any of the three is unknown… Winnipeg enters tonight’s game just three points off the playoff line in the Eastern Conference… January looks like it will end as the team’s second losing month this season. October was the first and the Jets are 3-7-1 to this point in the month… Jets’ penalty-killing is up to 11th overall after a disastrous start to the season.
About the Rangers
The Rangers haven’t played since Saturday afternoon, an overtime win over Boston… At 64 points, New York is the somewhat surprising leader of the Eastern Conference nearing the all-star break. This is the latest in a season the Rangers have led the Eastern Conference since there was previously a team in Winnipeg (1995-96)… The Rangers have won both meetings so far this season, once in each city. That’s a turnaround from last season, when Atlanta handled the Rangers in three of four games… New York gives up very little when down a man. It has allowed just one power-play goal in the last 13 games, killing at a rate of 96.7 per cent in that span… G Henrik Lundqvist, on his way to the NHL all-star game this weekend, is 21-10-4 through 35 appearances, with a GAA of 1.93 and a save percentage of .936.
