Hurricanes 2 / Jets 1
At RBC Center
Big Picture
Another stall. The Jets were unable to beat the last-place Hurricanes, and now the Canes aren’t last anymore. Winnipeg is stuck on 50 points, three points out of a playoff spot after Toronto’s win Monday night. Carolina moved up to 45 points, just five behind Winnipeg with two more games played. The only thing status quo after Monday’s game was that the Jets remained three points off the playoff line in the Eastern Conference, but another game played was burned.
Little Picture
A poor start, just like Saturday at home, was very costly to the visitors. Jeff Skinner and Tim Brent scored in the game’s first nine minutes and though the Hurricanes only had 16 shots on goal the whole night, it was enough to win. Kyle Wellwood scored for the Jets, who dropped to 7-13-4 on the road.
Game Changer
Brent’s goal from a bad angle at 8:28 of the first shouldn’t have been a game changer, but the Jets, offensively challenged on many nights, just didn’t have enough against a good goalie, Cam Ward, to come back from a two-goal hole.
