Tom Mulcair says an NDP government would create more than 40,000 youth jobs, paid internships and co-op placements over four years.

At a campaign stop this morning at a training centre for heavy equipment operators in Winnipeg, he said an NDP administration would accomplish the goal in partnership with small business, industry and NGOs.

Mulcair also said the NDP would create apprenticeship spaces through federal infrastructure projects and Crown corporations.

He also vowed to protect the safety of young workers and crack down on the use of unpaid internships.

“There are over 60,000 fewer jobs for youth today than when Stephen Harper first took office and the number of young Canadians unemployed has tripled,” Mulcair said. “We must do better.”
