The Metro posed four questions to all the candidates running for election in Winnipeg Centre. Robert-Falcon Ouellette (Lib) and Pat Martin (NDP) did not respond by press time. Here are the answers of Green Party candidate Don Woodstock.
Q: How will you address the need for affordable housing in Winnipeg Centre?
A: Work to improve the ‘existing stock’, work with all developers, agencies, small business, independent contractors to fast track retrofitting, renovating all empty buildings to get them suitable for low-income housing.
Q: How will you address the issues of the current transit system?
A: The current transit model needs serious investment from the federal government and also needs a more sustainable approach to the commuting public. This investment would take the form of electric buses and light rail.

Q: How will you make the downtown more attractive to families and businesses?
A: Every city has a very active vibrant downtown. We need to create the type of housing like The Forks just unveiled — an urban setting with a sustainable approach. This holds well for the future of not just the commercial district but adds a very attractive active lifestyle to the downtown.
Q: What will you bring to the role of member of parliament for Winnipeg Centre?
A: Being the only candidate who lives and works in the riding, I see the neglect, mental health, housing shortage and poverty that exists, and would be a strong voice to help reduce these stats. I am the only candidate who has a track record of advocating for changes in this riding and as MP, this would give me an opportunity to continue the same in Ottawa.
