DOUG Armour is hoping recent success on the ice at the Minnedosa Curling Club will help his team at the Provincial Masters Curling Championships.
"We entered the men’s bonspiel there last weekend and won," said Armour, defending men’s champion and a member of the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame. "We got a good feel for the ice and hopefully it helps us this weekend."
The men begin action in Minnedosa today while the women do the same in Souris.
"We’re looking forward to beginning our defence at 9 a.m.," said Armour, who took his team to the nationals last year and lost to B.C. in the final. "We’d love to get back there and see if we could improve on that finish."
The nationals are scheduled for Saskatoon in late March.
"Our third from last year, Ken Davis, went to another rink so we moved Gil Van Daele up to third and Ken Sabad to second. Grant McMullen is joining us at lead," said Armour.
Armour says there are some differences at this level but the curling is still excellent.
"All of these guys have curled at a high level," said Armour. "They know the shots and they know how to throw the shots. Some teams can’t throw the big weight. Our team can, so when we get into a little trouble we can clear things up. The sweeping isn’t always as aggressive."
