IT was a big day for the hometown boys Monday in Minnedosa as Ray Orr and his team won the 2009 Manitoba Credit Union Master’s Men’s Provincial Curling Championship title.
Orr and his team of third Dennis Peckover, second Bob Manns, lead John Mendrikis, and fifth Brian Manns defeated Thistle’s Bob Turner 7-3 in eight ends.
“We feel absolutely great,” Orr said in a telephone interview after the game. “We were the hometown team and when we won our zone, we were just happy there was going to be a hometown team playing in the provincials to help out with the crowds. At that point in time, you don’t really think that maybe you’ll win it, but as it turned out, it couldn’t have been any better.”
In the Master’s Women’s final in Souris, Elaine Jones of St. Vital defeated Gwen Smith of the Heather 6-4.
They two winners will represent Manitoba at the 2009 Canadian Open Masters in Saskatoon, March 28 to April 5.
