MOON ALERT: Avoid shopping (except food and gas) and major decisions from 3 a.m. until 8 a.m. After that, the moon moves from Aries into Taurus.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Be careful spending money and dealing with financial transactions because compulsive behaviour might cause you to make a decision you could later regret. This might relate to a purchase you make, or it could be something else.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

This is a tricky day because in one way you have the advantage of the moon being in your sign, which means you have a bit more luck than all the other signs. However, the moon in your sign is at odds with Pluto, which can create power struggles with authority figures.

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

The vibes feel a bit weird. You are empowered because the sun is in your sign. This is a given. However, the moon is hiding in your chart and is challenged by Pluto, which can raise feelings of guilt, jealousy or the desire to manipulate someone’s behaviour. Hmm.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

It’s a good thing fair Venus is in your sign smoothing your relations and making you extra-diplomatic and charming because fiery Mars and the moon could get you in trouble, especially in discussions about shared property and responsibilities.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

People notice you. Be aware of this if you’re in an emotional power struggle with someone. (This is not pretty.) Do what you can to maintain a good impression on your audience. Meanwhile, this power struggle will fizzle out.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Avoid controversial subjects because they will quickly raise your hackles and you’ll be annoyed. You might feel compelled to set the record straight and convince others about the truth of things. Well, they might not agree. For your own good, stay out of it.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Resist the urge to get caught up in arguments about money, funding and expenses regarding social outings and vacations or dealing with your kids. You thrive best when your immediate environment is harmonious. You know this. Protect your peace of mind.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Be patient and tactful with partners, spouses and close friends because it’s very easy for a minor irritation to develop into a full-blown confrontation. In part, this is because others, as well as you yourself, have compulsive, sudden impulses to do things. Take it easy.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Although there’s a lot of obsessive-compulsive energy out there, the fact of the matter is you can use this energy to get a lot done. You’ll be focused and you certainly will have perseverance. Chop wood, carry water.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Be patient with your kids. Likewise, romantic partners should be patient with each other. That’s because people are obsessed about little things. (And big things.) Obviously, this can lead to confrontations.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

It’s challenging to keep the peace at home right now. For starters, fiery Mars is in this part of your chart stirring up increased action, irritation and chaotic energy. And now, in addition, the moon is at odds with Pluto creating further confrontations with others. Don’t give fuel to the flame. Step back.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

You have to admit you’ve been feeling feisty lately. The good side is you’ve been convincing and persuasive with everyone. The bad side is you’ve been a bit pushy. Well, this is a pushy day. Do what you can to avoid arguments with others. Be cool.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor Peter Dinklage (1969) shares your birthday. You are vigorous, focused and incisive. You can totally immerse yourself in your work without distraction. This is the final year of a nine-year cycle. Take inventory of your life. Do some internal and external housecleaning. Commune with nature. Focus on being more compassionate, loving and generous.

Mayor backs new way to handle 911 mental health, addiction calls

Malak Abas 3 minute read 12:37 PM CDT

The mayor of Winnipeg has pitched a revamp of the city’s crisis response system that he says could divert 10,000 calls away from police, fire and paramedics every year.

The proposed “fourth crisis response pathway” would allow 911 calls that aren’t violent or criminal in nature to be transferred to citywide crisis response teams, staffed in part through current community resources, including the Downtown Community Safety Partnership and The Link’s mobile crisis teams.

A community crisis dispatch and co-ordination hub would receive triaged calls and match them with the teams, which would move them out of the Winnipeg Police Service and Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service calls for service.

“Every day, our 911 dispatchers receive calls from Winnipeggers who are in distress, dealing with complex mental health struggles, addiction, or wellness concerns,” Mayor Scott Gillingham said after releasing a report on the proposal Tuesday.
