MOON ALERT: Avoid shopping (except food and gas) or important decisions until 10:30 a.m. After that, the moon moves from Pisces into Aries.

ARIES (March 21-April 19)

Don’t let an element of dreamy confusion get you sidetracked because this is possible. Instead, work with the energy of the moon in your own sign dancing with Mars and Uranus, which makes you focused, ready for action and spontaneous.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20)

This is a restless day for you. Something going on behind the scenes might put you on edge. Nevertheless, it’s a great day to research something and find solutions to old problems. You might literally have a “Eureka!” moment. (Don’t be discouraged by authority figures or someone older.)

GEMINI (May 21-June 20)

A friend might surprise you or you might meet someone who is unusual. Don’t let anyone rain on your parade or throw shade on you. With Mars in your sign, you’re energetic, and the placement of Venus makes you charming and diplomatic.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

This is a poor day to ask for permission or approval from authority figures because co-operation is not easy to get. Meanwhile, be aware you are high-viz, which means people notice you more than usual. Think twice before you act impulsively.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22)

An unexpected opportunity to travel might fall into your lap. Perhaps travel plans will suddenly change. Likewise, something unexpected related to medicine, the law or higher education might also occur. Stay in your power zone with both Venus and Jupiter in your sign.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Make friends with your bank account because something unexpected could impact assets or anything to do with shared property. Stay on top of things. You’re prepared to assert yourself when dealing with authority figures. (Be smart, and do so wisely and gently.)

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

You have to accommodate someone or go more than halfway to meet them, as it were. Furthermore, relations with partners, spouses and authority figures might be strained. Fortunately, you’ll enjoy talking to friends and members of groups who will support your ideas.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Your work routine will be interrupted. Do not be cowed by the criticism of authority figures. Be courteous and remember that with both Venus and Jupiter at the top of your chart, you actually make a great impression on everyone.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Be patient with partners and close friends because fiery Mars opposite your sign can make you easily irritated with others. This could be about disputes related to shared property or debt. It might also relate to the cost of entertaining or responsibility for children. Stay chill.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Take a mellow approach when dealing with partners and close friends because relationships can be strained, especially due to criticism or a grumpy tone. (We hate grumpy tones.) In fact, you have the energy to make home improvements and share your ideas with family.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Steer clear of authority figures at work because you might be criticized or become discouraged for some reason. Instead, act on impulsive plans to do something fun and different. Why not? Accept invitations to explore new avenues that look appealing. Live it up.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

Your focus on finances and money really matters. Very likely, you might impulsively purchase something. Children might be an increased responsibility or you may be concerned about picking up the tab for fun diversions with friends and family.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY

Actor, comedian Kevin Hart (1979) shares your birthday. You are charismatic and vibrantly optimistic. Your enthusiasm is infectious. This is a year of exciting changes and increased personal freedom. Stay flexible and let go of whatever impedes your growth. Seek out new opportunities and be ready to act fast. Trust your intuition. Expect to travel.

Downtown Keg closes… to reopen nearby

Free Press staff 2 minute read Friday, Jul. 31, 2026

Downtown Winnipeg is without a Keg restaurant — for a couple of months, anyways.

The Keg Steakhouse and Bar vacated 115 Garry St. on Wednesday, after more than five decades at the location. It will open in a new Donald Street apartment tower this fall.

Its move comes after years of waiting. The DSM, at 185 Donald St., sat as a partially started apartment block after its developer stopped operating and sought creditor protection in April 2023. The developer began the project in 2019.

Carrington Real Estate took over in 2024. Part of the 14-storey site’s initial plans — pre-Carrington — was for the Keg to occupy the main floor.

WestJet, CUPE reach tentative deal as passengers scramble amid flight disruptions

The Canadian Press 6 minute read Updated: 3:44 PM CDT

CALGARY - WestJet and the union representing some 4,400 flight attendants reached a tentative deal Monday to resume work after a brief work stoppage, but neither side is sharing specifics yet.

The airline had said Sunday it had proposed a 13 per cent pay increase starting in October, and then a 2.5 per cent increase in each of the next three years until 2029.

The airline also said it offered a new duty pay premium, equivalent to another 12 per cent salary increase, which WestJet said is designed to solve the cabin crew's claim of unpaid work.

In a news conference in Calgary on Monday, CUPE local 8125 president Alia Hussain said the flight attendants have 30 days to ratify the agreement, and the union will spend the coming days preparing a slide show to present to the members.

For the second time in less than a year, fire broke out in a former restaurant on Main Street.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of fire at Boujee Restaurant and Bar, a vacant, single-storey building on the 100 block of Main Street at 5:38 p.m. Sunday. The same building was previously damaged in an October 2025 fire.

Heavy smoke was coming from the building when firefighters arrived on scene. Crews declared the fire under control at 9:40 p.m. No one was found inside the building and no injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates were available, but the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service stated in a news release Sunday the building sustained significant damage from smoke, fire and water.

Stampeding to Starlette’s

ELMA — Build it and they will come.

Lee and Star Giesbrecht are the owners of Starlette’s Burger Saloon, a western-themed, outdoor eating spot situated on the married couple’s 40-acre spread, immediately north of Elma.

Seated at one of a half-dozen picnic tables that dot the grounds, Star recalls a conversation she and Lee had prior to the May 2025 grand opening of their locale, which, with its weathered-wood exterior and rustic swinging doors, wouldn’t look out of place in an episode of Yellowstone.

Because they are “literally in the middle of nowhere,” Star says Lee thought it would be advantageous to mount a TV in one corner of the kitchen, for those occasions when they’d be twiddling their thumbs for hours on end, with little to do.
