WINNIPEG —Donations to help Manitobans devastated by flood will be accepted at participating Manitoba credit unions until Saturday, May 30 the Canadian Red Cross and Credit Union Central of Manitoba announced.
Manitoba Red Cross will use the funds to help meet basic needs of those affected by this disaster, like food, basic repairs, household goods, occupational needs and clean-up kits equipped with general cleaning supplies.
Red Cross in Manitoba has been actively responding since the flood threat began. The Red Cross opened a Family Reunification Line to assist evacuees to be reconnected with their friends and family concerned for their safety and well-being. The phone line is operated by a team of dedicated volunteers. For residents who evacuate suddenly and without basic necessities, the Red Cross also provides comfort kits to meet basic hygiene needs for adults, children and infants.
Manitobans wishing to help may also make a financial donation online at www.redcross.ca, or by calling the Red Cross 24-hours at 1-800-418-1111 (accepts Visa and MasterCard), or at participating Manitoba credit unions. Donations can also be made at any local Canadian Red Cross office. Donations of goods are not accepted.
In the unlikely event that funds exceed needs, the money will be used in future disasters of this type in Manitoba.
